Lào Cai

Lào Cai is the northernmost site of this project, found in the high mountain areas of the Red River Catchment. It has a population of around 615,620, comprising of 25 ethnic groups. 64.09% of the population are from an ethnic minority background and the most common economic activities are agriculture and forestry.

Climate Change poses specific issues such as abnormal rain patterns that increase water scarcity, thus reducing crop yield. They are also facing increasing extreme weather phenomena such as extreme high-low temperatures, and an increased number of storms and tropical depressions.
